How Do I Hide My Thinning Hair?

How Do I Hide My Thinning Hair?

So your hair is thinning for one reason or another and you would like it to be less obvious.  There are many tricks that you can do with your thinning hair that will give the illusion of thicker hair.  The right cut and color can do wonders.  A cropped shorter hair cut like a wedge is a great choice.  Cut the nape shorter to create more volume to the top of your hair.   Longer layers draw the eye down away from the top of your head, unlike shorter layers at the temple which draw the eye to your thinner area of hair.

Hair color is also great for thinning hair because it changes the texture of the hair by expanding the hair cuticle and increasing the diameter. Highlights can also give the illusion of more volume and increase the texture.  It’s typically better to use dimensional coloring, which looks more natural by giving variation in the color.

If getting a shorter cut and color doesn’t give you the look you are looking for you should seriously consider a Human Hair Partial Wig.  They aren’t like what your Aunt Pearl used to wear, they are soft and gorgeous and enhance the hair you already have while feeling weightless. They can be cut and colored to look like the full head of hair you used to have.  Call Invisible Hair, they are one of the top hair replacement salons in the San Diego area.  Their hair replacement professionals will help you choose the perfect hair piece for you .

What Is Alopecia Areata ???

hair restoration san diego

hair restoration san diego

Alopecia Areata (AA) is the third most common form of hair loss seen by dermatologists.  It is an autoimmune disease where the bodies immune system attacks the hair follicles. It is not contagious so you can’t catch it from some who does have AA.  The attack on the hair follicles results in hair loss everywhere on the body including the highly visible scalp.  It usually starts with one or more small patches of hair loss and may progress to the entire scalp (alopecia totalalis) or the entire body (alopecia universals).  Alopecia areata affects up to 2% of the population and is unpredictable and cyclical.  It’s unknown  exactly what causes  AA.  Research has shown that genetics, extreme stress, allergies, toxins, or viruses may contribute to making someone more susceptible to AA,  or maybe a combination of some of the above factors.

So how is AA treated?  There are a range of treatments, yet none are effective for everyone and some people don’t respond to any of the treatments available.  For mild cases, the use of corticosteroid creams are used directly on the balding area.  The injection of corticosteroids is a stronger approach and needs to be watched  for side effects such as thinning skin and rashes at the injection site.  For extreme cases, the use of systemic corticosteroids (pills etc) that affect the entire body which has  greater side effects like bone-thinning. Therefore,  this method has found success with shorter periodic use known as “pulse therapy”.  There is a new therapy that is in the clinical trial stages  of research called “Biologics”.  Biologics are injected systematically to calm down the immune activity allowing hair to regrow.  Much interest is awaiting the result of these studies. Unfortunately, for people with long term and extensive AA there are no treatments that work well for them.  This can be depressing and affect ones self esteem especially children and women.

What do you do while your hair is growing back or if your hair never grows back?  Your best bet is a partial hair piece to cover your areas of thinning hair or a full coverage wig.  Don’t fret!  The technology of hair replacement systems have come a long way.  Today, the hair replacement systems are made with soft, gorgeous, touchable human hair.  The compassionate and competent professionals at Invisible Hair Replacements are tediously trained to assist you in choosing the perfect hair system and then transforming it to match your hair color, texture, and style perfectly.  Most importantly is these beautiful hair systems are so natural they are undetectable…the only person who will know your wearing a  hairpiece is you!

First Impressions and Your Hair !!!

European hair wigs san diego

What does your hair tell about you?  Your hair makes statements such as how fashionable you are, how organized you are, even to some extent what type of job you do, by your hairstyle. Your hair is certainly a huge give away when it comes to first impressions.
Hair is often called a ‘crowning glory’ which it certainly can be when well groomed, clean and shiny, in fact your hairstyle dictates the first impressions you make and overpowers the impact of facial features.

It has also been observed that a “bad hair day” affects more than your appearance, it impacts on performance, self esteem, social insecurity and self criticism, thus a bad hair day has become part of the idiom of a bad day in general.

So if your like like a lot of women who suffer from Alopecia or hair loss from chemotherapy or any other reason, a “bad hair day” can be an every day occurrence. It doesn’t have to be. Having a Human Hair hairpiece can literally change your life.  The hair pieces literally transform your look and make you feel like yourself again.  They can be attached ‘permanently’ or  kept in place by clips. Both are effective options, then you can say “bye bye bad hair days” and “hello great first impressions”.  Call Invisible Hair for an personal appointment and let them help you choose the perfect hair piece for you.

Dawn Harrison, owner of Invisible Hair Pieces, Extensions, and Human hair wigs.

Dawn has earned two U.S. Patents for inventing the “Invisible Hair Grafting”, which is a non-surgical method of attaching human hair pieces to women’s hair and skin.

Can Exercise Decrease Breast Cancer Recurrence ???

women hair loss treatment

Studies have shown that regular exercise may lower the risk of the recurrence of breast cancer.  Breast cancer survivors who got three to nine hours of walking a week had a 35 to 40 percent lower risk of breast cancer coming back compared to survivors who chose a less active lifestyle.

Exercise offers additional benefits for breast cancer survivors such as improved physical movement and condition, more positive mood, improved body image, increased sexuality, decreased fatigue, decrease in depression, and bone health maintenance.  Walking is an activity that most people can enjoy without a gym or added equipment.  Enjoy the outdoors or a mall and start walking slowly for about 15 minutes and increase the speed and duration as long as it is comfortable.  Be sure to consult your doctor before you start any exercise program.

Walking also allows us to actually see our surroundings, visit with our neighbors, and literally smell the roses.  While  you walk do your best to be in the present which means not thinking of the past or the future.  With every step smell the air, touch the trees, listen to the sounds around you and see all the beauty that surrounds you.

Can Menopause Cause Hair Loss ???

  • Yes it can. Just as increased  levels of female hormones during pregnancy provide women with fuller, healthier hair, the declining levels during menopause may have the opposite effect. Also, when the levels of female hormones decrease, the effects of androgens (male hormones) can increase, causing certain hair follicles to fail. Depending on your genetics, these hair follicles produce progressively weaker hair and then no hair at all. If your doctor has advised replacing your declining testosterone levels, this also may work against your luscious locks as many aging women can experience increased hair loss from testosterone, especially if they are “androgen sensitive.”

Just at the age when women are getting older, wiser, and feeling as if they are more comfortable with who they are…it changes.  Our hormones change and hair grows where it never had before and then becomes less where it always grew before.  Fortunately, with our acquired wisdom we are able to adjust to the new hair growth patterns and the other changes that come along with menopause.  To supplement your hair volume, make an appointment with an Invisible Hair professional consultant and she can fit you with a beautiful human hair partial hairpiece that will add amazing volume to your hair.  You will be so glad you did!

Can Haircare Products Contribute To Thinning Hair???

hairpieces for women

There are many factors that contribute to thinning hair, that’s why Invisible Hair offers hairpieces for women! Factors including diet, stress, genetics, medication, and aging can all contribute to thinning hair.  Chemical damage and menopause contribute to fifty percent of women who experience thinning hair.  The majority of haircare products contain alcohol, parabens, sodium laurel sulphate, DEA, and other toxic chemicals that may actually damage and thin hair. The products we put on our hair also go on our scalp and is absorbed into our body.  An unhealthy scalp will block the absorption of nutrients needed for the growth of healthy hair.  When choosing your haircare products look at the ingredients and choose those made with more natural ingredients. Thinning hair is fragile so avoid flat irons and curling irons, keep your scalp free of toxic build up, and never towel dry your hair. Be gentle with your hair and yourself by remembering to feed your body on the inside and out with healthy ingredients that will nourish all of you.

Dawn Harrison, owner of Invisible Hair Pieces, Extensions, and Human hair wigs.

Does Stress Affect Cancer ???

chemo wigs San Diego

People who have cancer most likely will find the emotional, physical, and social effects of the disease to be quite stressful. People who use effective tools to cope with stress, such as relaxation techniques, meditation, and stress management, have shown to have less depression, anxiety, and symptoms related to cancer and its treatment. Emotional and social support can be helped when learning relaxation and meditation techniques, counseling, social support in a group setting and exercise.

You are not alone on this journey, reach out for help and accept the love and support from those around you. Every day find something to be grateful for, more often than not it’s the little things that bring the greatest joy.

Do I Have To Lose My Hair During Chemo???

hair loss treatment

Maybe not!  Maybe it’s just a matter of wearing a “Cold Cap” that numbs your hair follicles during chemotherapy .  U.S. researchers are conducting research studies that put an experimental hair-preserving treatment to the test.  It’s already being used across Europe and Canada.  Near freezing temperatures seem to reduce blood flow in the scalp, making it more difficult for the cancer fighting drugs to reach and damage the hair follicle.  While there are many types of cold caps sold around the world, the Food and Drug Administration has yet to approve their use on the U.S.

It’s hard enough to be dealing with cancer on a physical and emotional level, but to also have the outward physical sign of losing your hair and therefore showing others that you have cancer is sometimes more than some can handle.  Having options like beautiful human hair wigs and hair pieces allows you to combat your illness while having an outer appearance that helps you feel more confident and have peace of mind that you can get through this gracefully.

Make an appointment with one of our compassionate professionals to help you choose from the most natural looking human hair wigs that will make you feel like you again.

Genetic Program is Cause For Hair Loss ???

Pattern Hair Loss

Pattern hair loss is not the result of “trapped hair
follicles”, build-up of DHT, scalp oils, or anything else on the scalp,
poor circulation, inadequate oxygen, constant stress, or inadequate nutrition.
Pattern hair loss is simply the result of genetic programming of hair follicle
cells and the exposure of the cells to hormones in the blood over a long period
of time.

Flatter Your Face Shape – Circle

chemo wigs riverside

CIRCLE

Rounder in shape, circular shaped faces have all the right curves! Cut and color can help to elongate the face and make the the most of this great shape.

HAIRCOLOR
Try sun-kissed highlights to flatter circular faces: Ask your Invisible Hair consultant to add highlights above your forehead, and a darker shade at the cheeks and jawline.

HAIRCUT & STYLING
Avoid chin-length styles, blunt bangs and middle parts—they’re too drastic and can add width. Go for softer styles with asymmetry: Side-swept bangs and a side part work beautifully, and so do chunky layers!

Adding height at the crown helps to create the illusion of length as well.

FASHION TIPS
Choose open necklines to create the illusion of length. What should you avoid? Crew necks, which mimic the natural roundness of the face.

Earrings that are longer and leaner, such as thin chandelier styles, help to elongate the face.

Your Human Hair Wig can be colored and cut to beautifully accentuate your natural beauty, let us help you present the the most beautiful you!

Is your hair “STRESSED OUT” ???

Fine Hair Women's hair loss Vista

It has been found that cortisone, hormones released during stress, can actually be measured in our hair.  Even though hair consists of dead cells, the hair follicle is actually a living organism, receiving oxygen and nutrients from our bloodstream.  This results in substances like cortisol get into the follicle from blood vessels in the scalp and while the hair grows, the cortisol moves up the strand.  Hair grows on average one centimeter per month, therefore a six centimeter-long hair strand can show cortisol levels over six months.  It now gives a biological marker for chronic stress for the first time.  How much cortisol do you think would be found in your hair and how much does stress relate to your hair loss ?  While your pondering that question, go take a walk and relax a little.  Reply below and let us know how you relieve your stress!

Dawn Harrison, owner of Invisible Hair Pieces, Extensions, and Human hair wigs.

FINDING THE RIGHT HAIR

There is an upside of the hair replacement industry right now in that there are so many different types of hair available.  From synthetic, human, polyester, nylon, to euro hair, even to options like baby hair and yak hair.  There are many things to take in consideration when selecting the perfect hair.

You want the new hair to match your existing hair as close as possible.  This will mean not only matching the color, but also the texture and style.  Smooth and shiny hair cannot have thick and textured hair mixed in.  Different ethnics have different hair textures; this must be considered as well.  Matching requires the use of your sense of sight, as well as your sense of touch.
Look at the hair, feel it and match it as closely as possible to your own hair.

Once you have found the hair that looks, feels and styles like your own don’t stop there, you must
factor in your lifestyle and how you need the hair to perform and behave.  Because there are so many different hair
replacement brands and types of hair, the best way to  is to go to a specialist who has the knowledge of, and an inventory of, as many hair types as possible.
